Looking at a glowing screen in a dark room is common but is a serious problem > your eye is constantly switching between the two...dark bright dark bright... this can potentially cause serious issues such as headaches, blurred vision and light sensitivity.

My advise is to reduce those contrast ratios, adjust screen light settings, have another light source on within your vicinity with low level lighting, if you can add anything install a rotary dimmer to adjust the surrounding light level.
